Neighbourhood Mental Health Cafes Lead

The Neighbourhood Mental Health Cafes are safe and welcoming spaces for individuals experiencing difficulties with their emotional and mental wellbeing, providing a meaningful and supportive alternative to A&E or other urgent services at the time of crisis. They operate on a drop-in basis delivering practical support to de-escalate mental health distress and signposting those with complex/urgent need to the relevant service. They provide a range of opportunities to respond to the needs of different individuals, including quiet spaces, group activities, and 121 conversations designed to support individuals to manage their distress, and develop healthy coping strategies.

There are a network of 25 cafes across the region, delivered by a number of different organisations. LLR Mind will soon be providing the Mental Health Cafes at the three local Universities. Each café will be tailored to the needs of the university it supports. The proposed days and times for delivery are currently:

  • University of Leicester – Mondays 12-2pm, Wednesdays 12-2pm, Fridays 12-2pm
  • DeMontfort University – Wednesday 7-10pm, Saturday afternoon/evening
  • Loughborough University – Thursday 7-10pm, Sunday afternoon/evening

About the role

JOB TITLE                 NMHC Lead

SALARY                      £23,033per annum (£28,407 FTE)

HOURS                       30 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends.

CONTRACT                Permanent

LOCATION                 Remote – travel around the LLR region will be required.

REPORTING TO        Chief Executive Officer

 

The Neighbourhood Mental Health Café Lead will be responsible for establishing our brand-new service at the three universities. The successful applicant will work closely with the CEO, the NMHC Support Workers, and other stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of all three cafes to people with mental health needs.

We’re looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills and experience of supporting adults with poor mental health who can work in a recovery orientated, strength-based, non-judgemental manner way and help make the service a success.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of LLR Mind’s Neighbourhood Mental Health Cafes (NMHC), ensuring each one meets agreed targets.
  • Act as the main point of contact for the NMHC team.
  • Line manage the NMHC Support Workers, providing mentoring and coaching support as appropriate.
  • Work with individuals to develop coping strategies and action/safety plans as appropriate.
  • Establish positive beneficiary engagement and input to ensure they have voice, choice, and control over the support they receive.
  • Collate, analyse, and evaluate data to monitor the efficacy of the services.

 

Essential criteria:

  • Understanding of different mental health problems, including their symptoms and potential causes.
  • At least one year’s experience of supporting adults with poor mental health.
  • Up to date knowledge of mental health support services across LLR.
  • IT literate, including Office 365
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to build strong working relationships with both internal and external partners.
  • Able to prioritise, managing a varied workload and time effectively.
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to develop and motivate individuals and groups.
  • Able to manage professional boundaries, deal with sensitive information, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Able to effectively engage with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a recovery orientated, strength-based, non-judgemental manner.
  • Committed to promoting a culture that values equity and diversity.
  • Able to travel to different venues across LLR.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends.
